Description

Remarks: L047 magnum plecos have a dark olive body with gold/yellow edges on their fins giving them a similar appearance to the gold nugget pleco, albeit without the spots. This bright coloration paired with their olive bodies has also given them their other common name, the mango pleco. These earthy tones make this species a great choice for those looking for a pleco with a subtle, natural beauty.

L047 magnum plecos originate from the Xingu River, where the water is faster flowing and warmer than other areas of Brazil. They will appreciate rock structures and plenty of aeration, as that is what they are used to in the Rio Xingu. As they are used to being able to feed 24/7 in the wild, these plecos can be difficult to keep healthy in captivity especially when first imported as they frequently starve to death. To prevent this, they should be fed a varied, high quality diet with frequent, small meals. Allowing algae and biofilm to grow in the tank will help with keeping their bellies full.

While they are docile when young, L047 magnum plecos can get rather territorial as adults. For these reasons, one should provide plenty of space and caves if the plan is to keep multiple magnum plecos together or to keep them with conspecifics. This spunky attitude can be beneficial as they will be less shy about feeding and combined with their size, can handle their own against more boisterous fish such as severums and larger acaras.
