Remarks: Gymnogeophagus terrapurpura come from areas that go through a cold season. To induce breeding, brief drops in temperature during parts of the year will be beneficial. A sandy substrate is required as they gather food morsels by sifting sand through their gills. This particular species can be found in many different habitats in the more southern areas of South America and is a fairly small eartheater. Gymnogeophagus terrapurpura typically are very prolific and hardy so they make for a great breeding project.
