Remarks: The red Kachese tropheus is an uncommon locality of Tropheus that can be found near Cape Kachese along the southern coast of Lake Tanganyika. Upon maturity and when in the right conditions, these fish have beautiful coloration. The top half of their bodies and their faces are dark gray or black making their golden bellies, reddish-orange fins occasionally flecked with blue, and blue lips really pop. These colors are more blended together and dull in juveniles but the wait for them to grow into their true potential is worth it as it is with all Tropheus.
Tropheus are obligate herbivores, and even small amounts of protein can induce bloating conditions. They form social hierarchies and should be kept in large groups, about 10 or more, to spread out any aggression. Tropheus tend to be more peaceful toward non-conspecific species so they can do well in a large Tanganyikan community tank.
