Description
Product Description All 9 EHEIM Heater models are 100% fully submersible and come with a new TruTemp dial that allows the user to recalibrate the heater within a +/- 0.5F degree accurancy for precise temperature readings. Amazon.com Directions for installing and using your Aqueon ProHeaterCaution: Before working with or installing heater, be sure to read and understand all safety instructions and warnings.Step 1Attach suction cups: Remove sticker around power monitor light. Attach suction cups to heater. Attaching both suction cups will ensure proper positioning in your aquarium and will allow adequate water circulation around the heater for even heat distribution. Suction cups should be placed in the middle to upper portion of the heater.Step 2Set heater temperature: Turn the adjustment knob until it corresponds to the desired aquarium temperature. As all aquariums vary, further adjustment may be required to maintain desired temperature.Step 3Heater installation: Install heater in water filled aquarium. The heater works best when installed in the aquarium in the vertical position. The installation of the heater in this position requires that the aquarium must maintain a water level above the minimum water level on the heater. The heater can be installed in the aquarium in the horizontal position. The installation of the heater in this position requires that the heater be positioned fully submerged in water at all times.Step 4Plug into electrical outlet: Allow for heater to be submerged in water for a minimum of 30 minutes prior to powering the appliance. Once heater has been mounted and submerged for the 30 minutes, plug the appliance into an electrical outlet. Once plugged in, the heater will automatically start working and the power monitor light will illuminate. A red light indicates the unit is heating and a green light indicates the unit has reached the set temperature.Step 5Adjust temperature: Allow the heater to run for 24 hours at the original setting prior to adjusting. Check the aquarium water with a reliable thermometer. Should the heater need to be adjusted from the original setting, slightly turn the adjustment knob + or - the number of degrees, as needed. Once adjusted, wait 24 hours and repeat if necessary. Note: Do not over adjust the heater, this may cause harm to your aquarium inhabitants and environment. Make sure of the required temperature for your specific setup.

Besides being a little hard to set the temperature, which there are videos of how to do it on youtube, it holds the temperature perfectly. I have a 5.5 gallon tank in my room that is sometimes in the low 60s°F over night. I keep my tank at 80°F. I've never had a single problem with this thermostat. I never even see the tank temperature off by 1°F.Yes, its a little large, for its wattage, and also for my tank size, so I have it installed on an angle. Its probably large for a reason though, so I am fine with that. The suction cups aren't the greatest, they still hold but after weekly cleanings for the past year, where I do take the thermostat out, the suction cups are getting weak. You can buy replacements EHEIM Jager Double Suction Cup Holder or lay the heater on the floor since it is completely submersible. I am planning on replacing the suction cups with magnets anyway, but sometime when I have more time to play, but I do think the suction cups will hold until I am ready, and that may be awhile. The power cord is great, it is long, has a great feel, and I don't think I will ever have a problem with it.The main reason I chose this was one review I read. Their tank leaked while they were out, losing all of the water (poor fishes), and this heater suffered no harm from that. The price is great too, for such a quality product, its priced the same as the junk ones in the chain pet stores. That one couldn't even keep the temperature consistent, let alone heat up the tank to the temperature I wanted. It was also a 50 watt heater like this one too. This one doesn't spend a lot of time on unless I just changed the tank water and its bringing everything up to temperature. If all Eheim products are like this, I would use all of them.
