Since this is a feature-rich LED this review will be a little longer and more in-depth.When deciding on a LED light fixture for my 20L shell-dwller tank I considered several different brands and options. I looked at Beamswork, Marineland, Current and FInnex. I have Beamswork fixtures and, although they are pretty cheap, I'm not real happy with the light intensity and color temperature they produce. Marineland and Current seemed overpriced for the features. This landed me on Finnex. I liked the features of the Planted+ 24/7, but thought it too was a little costly. After reading and watching several good reviews I decided to give it a shot and I'm glad I did! Here's Why:DESIGNI really like the look of this light. It is very sleek and modern-loooking. It basically looks like a thin, metal bar on top your tank and that's all. It makes my Beamswork fixtures look like something from the 1980's. I went with the 24" version for my 30" 20L and it looks awesome on top of the piece of glass I am using as a canopy (see attached pic).My main complaint with the design of this light are the cords coming out of it. To begin with, they are permanently fastened to the fixture. There is one on the right side for power and on the other is the remote sensor. I wish that they cords, at least the power cord, were removable. This would make the easier to replace if they were to break. The power cord is removable near the power brick so that is a plus. It does have an odd, proprietary connection tho.Beyond this I don't like the way the cords look dangling off of my tank. I understand the need for the remote IR receiver to be on a cord for applications where the fixture is mounted in a canopy. it just ins't ascetically pleasing to me. Currently I have propped up into one of the mount channels (see attached pic). I don't need to use the mount on my setup and the IR receiver wire pinches nicely into each opening of the mount channel. Hopefully this doesn't harm the cord. All in all, this is a sleek, modern light that I think most will be pleased to have sitting on top their tank.FEATURESYou can read more about the features in the product information here on amazon or on Finnex's website so I won't go into details. I will just give a few of my thoughts on some of them.Weather Features - For the most part I find these to be gimmicky and a little silly. I don't really need to emulate a thunderstorm in my fish tank, plus I think it would freak out the fish. The clouds, moonlight and daylight settings could come in handy, but I don't really need them. If you use the 24/7 features they are a little extraneous anyway.Color Adjustment/Memory - This feature is actually quite handy if you want to dial in the exact desired color temperature. Say you want to highlight certain colors of your fish, this feature allows you to do this. The memory feature allows you to save up to four different color combinations of your choosing. For those who like to tinker around with things this will be a very welcomed feature. I don't find myself using it very often.24/7 Timer - This is, after all, the reason you buy this light. It has a built in 24-hour timer that ramps the light intensity up and then down throughout a 24-hour period. It also changes the color temperature to "match" sunrise and sunset. I put the word "match" in quotes because I don't find it to be all that exact to a 24-hour sun cycle. The morning is very orange and the evening very purple. The middle of the day cycle seems pretty accurate ramping up to full spectrum light by 3pm.Just to note, this is not a clock timer, it is simply a 24-hour timer. Once you select the closest time on the remote to your current time it simply begins a 24-hour timer that continues on forever. Since it is summer and the sun sets a lot later I actually backed mine up by an hour so that the 9pm setting hits at 10pm. I like how this is working right now. I will probably return to the normal 9pm setting in the fall.Besides being a little inaccurate for color temperature I really like the 24/7 feature. I wanted a fixture that ramped up and down the light intensity. The Planted+ 24/7 takes this to the next level.LIGHT INTENSITYSo this is a "plant" LED fixture according to Finnex. I've been disappointed by such marketing language in the past. However, I must say, this is a very bright LED. At the max setting it is rated at almost 60 PAR. I think this would be enough PAR to grow all but the highest light demanding of plants. It might grow carpet plants, but I have no proof to back this claim up. Just a guess. On my 30" 20L tank the 24" version is more than enough light! It illuminates every corner of the tank very nicely on the max setting and even the dimmer settings look nice. Granted, I just have low-light plants and cichlids, but it's still quite bright. You would like a need the 30" version on a 29G tank, but the 24" would actually work pretty well if you didn't have too high of light demanding plants. This fixture is certainly a great plant light that will work for most applications. I think it is worth the name "Planted+".CONCLUSIONAlthough I have only had this light for a few days I am still very impressed and highly recommend it. It is one of the more costly freshwater LED fixtures on the market, but the features make it worth the price. For now I highly recommend it and give it five stars. Stay tuned for further updates on its long-term use.
