Remarks: Kuhli loaches are very popular for smaller community tanks as they are very peaceful and while they are long, they are fairly thin and noodle-like. They are fairly shy so bright lighting should be avoided and plenty of hiding places should be provided. In the wild, these fish hide among leaf litter and burrow into the substrate. Kuhli loaches should be kept on a sand of soft substrate to facilitate this burrowing behavior as course sand and gravel can scratch their soft bodies and damage their barbels they use to find food.
Being extremely social, these fish need to be kept in groups of 6 or more to feel safe and happy. They are known to crowd one hiding place which can be endearing to watch as they all lay on top of one another.
