Remarks: This uncommon, wild type of angelfish from the Manacapuru River in Brazil is highly sought after due to the orange-red coloration that gives it its common name. Upon maturity and when kept in the proper conditions, this fish will develop a striking reddish orange coloration from behind the eye to the dorsal fin.
Red Shoulder Manacapuru Angelfish are easy-going cichlids that do well in almost any community tank. They are peaceful enough to be kept with most tetras and other peaceful cichlids as long as they can't fit in their mouths.
Breeding Angelfish can often be achieved by giving them a vertical, flat surface to spawn on, such as a leaf of a sword plant or a piece of slate leaning against the wall. Fry will be cared for until a few weeks after they are free swimming, though you can remove the fry or eggs and hatch them artificially if you wish.
