Remarks: Synodontis nigrita are fairly similar in appearance to S. eupterus, the common Featherfin Squeaker Cat. However, some individuals showed large sections of yellow coloration when they matured, and breeders began working to create a solid yellow Syno. The result is the "Gold" S. nigrita. While these fish start as mottled or blotchy juveniles, they turn yellow as they approach their full size, earning them the name "Mustard Syno." While this color form likely isn't helpful to them in the wild, it sure gives aquarists something to be excited about. You can often find them hiding under a piece of driftwood or a rocky outcropping - sometimes even upside-down.
